Arts Club Digital Edition

Dear Patron,

As a company, we’ve always cherished our origin story: the Arts Club went from a small gathering spot on Seymour and Davie in downtown Vancouver to become the largest urban not-for-profit theatre company in Canada! Though we’ve grown, we’re still dedicated to the advancement of local artists by sharing stories not only from across the globe, but also from Vancouver- and B.C.-based voices. We believe that through the sharing of these stories, culture expands, understanding of our differences is nurtured, and art bursts forth. But above all, we believe that through theatrical storytelling, our knowledge of who we are as a community, as a region, and as a nation emerges.

And this is why, during these times of global crisis, art is more important than ever. While we wish more than anything that we could be together during this time, we don't believe that physical separation should stop us from being connected by the power of theatre. So we're bringing you digital content to get you through these strange and unprecedented times, and to keep you connected to the Arts Club while our stages are dark.

We know that this is a difficult time for everyone. We're so humbled by the unending support of our patrons, and we hope to bring joy and light into your day during this time.

Sincerely,
Peter Cathie White, Executive Director
Ashlie Corcoran, Artistic Director

The Importance of Storytelling

Though we can’t welcome you back into our theatres just yet, we can still bring a little theatre magic into your lives—so we’ve gathered some wise and inspiring words from our artists to brighten up your day.

In this video, the cast and creative teams from the shows we’ve brought to our stages this season speak about why theatre is important to them, and why it’s such a powerful tool for bringing people together.

Arts Club Live from Home
Additionally, we're thrilled to introduce you to our new video series, Arts Club: Live from Home!

We've been hard at work on this project, which will bring art to your living rooms while our venues are closed. Twice every week, we'll be sharing a performance from a local artist who has been affected by closures due to COVID-19. Each performer will receive an artist fee for their work, whether it be a song, a monologue, or a dance number—or anything in between!

Check out the first video, featuring 'da Kink in my Hair's Paige Fraser, above! Join us every Tuesday and Friday for more—make sure to follow us on our Facebook and Youtube channels, @theArtsClub, to keep up to date. Starting next week, you'll also be able to find more digital content on the home page of artscub.com!

Yesterday, we announced a new ongoing series: Workshop Wednesdays! Each week during this period of physical distancing, we'll bring you a Zoom workshop from one of our fantastic Arts Club instructors. Play theatre games, connect with other drama lovers, and learn more about theatre.

This week, we have two workshops available! Read on to discover more about each, and register soon—there are limited spaces left.
